Goals

The national goal of Step It Up is to reduce carbon emissions in the U.S. by 80% by 2050. In addition to this national goal, Step It Up-Frederick is supporting various local goals that are all about us doing our part locally to achieve the national goal. As we will be urging our area’s federal leaders to pursue to national goals, we will likewise be urging our state, county and city leaders to pursue the local goals as well.
The local goals of Step It Up-Frederick are:
- Support passage of the Global Warming Solutions Act by the Maryland legislature
- Have Frederick City and Frederick County sign up for the Cool Cities / Cool Counties Sierra Club program
- Extend rail transit from Shady Grove to Frederick County
- Develop a network of bike paths through Frederick County
- Preserve open space in Frederick County by supporting dense, in-fill development
Maybe there should be additional goals as well. Or these should be changed. Leave a comment with your opinion. We’ll be writing more on these topics as time goes on.

It’s important to let our local politicians know that we expect them to take action, and further, that their jobs depend on it (in a nice way, of course). It’s obvious we can’t count on the federal government to take any effective action. For now (or, at least until the next national election cycle – come on, ‘08!), we’ll need to follow the lead of the many communities across the country who are already taking action to reduce their carbon footprint. Replace those incandescent bulbs in your own home, walk and bike more, instead of driving (you might even get to meet some friendly neighbors), and communicate your feelings to your elected representatives. Let’s get moving on this, both in our private and public lives. After all, what else have you got to do – watch another hour or two of (urk) television? Let’s get active and connected!

Hello by you the dates of the days
You are an away then I feel
By his west and the longing
For that you were not not present
He became tired in the year and you are fine
His remainder is a grain let me remove you
Then she/you doesn’t forget me
